Those attending Houston ROM Weekend Challenge in the Summit Conference Room of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church last weekend came from Denver CO, Seattle WA, Silverthorne CO, Washington DC and Houston TX Houston ROM Weekend Challenge.
Tihomir Kukolja shared the history of ROM, and its vision and mission. Randy Butler shared an outline for the process that leads to empathy, reconciliation and acceptance of those who are different. He talked also about his recent peace visit to Sudan. Allen Belton shared his Balkan experiences since 2001, and provided an account of his recent visit to Israel. He also spoke on the theme - Healing Hurting America. A special treat was the time we had with Don Teague, CBS News Correspondent and the co-author of the recently published book "Saved by Her Enemy". He shared how he, his family and a number of his friends saved the life of Rafraf Barrak, a young Iraqi translator working for NBC in 2003 and 2004.
The whole program was richly spiced by inputs of other participants attending the gathering, conversations shared around during the lunch breaks and dinner times; and by excellent music provided by Robert and Zachary Schmidt, and by Derrick Black, a gospel music artist from Houston TX.
Watch: Moments of joy, inspiration and improvisation at Houston ROM Weekend Challenge last weekend. Allen Belton, Robert and Zack Schmidt sing He's Got the Whole World in His Hands; Allen Belton sings In His Presence, accompanied by Derrick Black; and then again Robert and Zack.
